Lead Professional: Practitioners' and Managers' guides

The Managers' guide is for all strategic and operational managers across all children's services who have responsibility for implementing a lead professional model of working to ensure better outcomes for children, young people and their families.

The Practitioners' guide is for practitioners who want to find out more and for those who are already carrying out lead professional work.

All children and young people with additional needs who require integrated support from more than one practitioner should experience a seamless and effective service. This is delivered most effectively when one practitioner takes a lead role to ensure that frontline services are coordinated, coherent and achieving intended outcomes.

The guidance has been refreshed (July 2009) to update the documents in line with recent policy changes, to make them more accessible.  The refreshed guidance will place more emphasis on the role of the team around the child, and also contains a list of skills helpful when taking on the role of the lead professional
